Australian cricket team’s dark days

One of the first things that comes to mind when talking about all allegations is the ball tampering incident of 2018. In the third Test match between South Africa and Australia Bancroft, Warner, and Steve were accused of tampering with the ball. Later Bancroft and Smith admitted that they had conspired to change the condition of the ball by using a piece of adhesive tape that contained ground granules. However, there was a revelation that sand paper was actually in use. Following this incident, both Warner and Smith had to step down from their respective roles. Additionally, both of them were suspended for 12 months while Bancroft was suspended for 9 months.

While Smith and Bancroft cannot have any leadership roles for the next 12 months following the suspension, Warner is suffering a ban for life. In fact, after these events the then head coach, Darren Lehmann, gave his resignation as well. Following this fiasco, the captain of choice was Tim Paine.

In 2019, after losing the Test series against Pakistan they also lost the four match Test series against India. However, the Australian cricket team kept their heads high and fought through the dark times. In the 2019 World Cup, the team reached the semi-finals and defeated Sri Lanka during the Test Match series.
