The Australian Government made the announcement that certain venues will host up to 10,000 spectators for sporting events. However, these venues are the ones with a capacity of 40,000, such as Hobart, Metricon Stadium, and the WACA. Major venues such as Adelaide Oval, SCG, MCG, and Perth Stadium are yet to receive a decision.

If this decision is final, then spectators will be able to attend international cricket and the Big Bash whenever Cricket Australia moves ahead. While this gives a boost to T20 World Cup, it involves the decision of getting 15 teams across the world.

“For the larger ones [venues] I would venture that it would be the subject of a discrete approval for each venue that would be worked out with the Chief Health Officer in each state or territory”,
said PM Scott Morrison.

On top of that, if the decision to allow spectators then it will add to the revenue of Cricket Australia. Initially, the revenue model hosts a 25% to 30% reduction if the games resume behind closed doors. However, if spectators are allowed, then there is a better chance of CA to get their budget plan approved by Australian Cricketers’ Association.

As of now, Cricket Australia is planning to resume the series between Zimbabwe and Australia. Moreover, with women’s cricket, they are planning to resume the series between New Zealand and Australia. Since the government is allowing spectators to return, CA will be starting the process of resuming events at bigger venues.
