Mohit Sharma expresses his admiration for MS Dhoni during an Instagram session organised by Delhi Capitals.
Sharma is a part of Delhi Capitals for the 13th season of Indian Premier League. However, he still gives credit to MS Dhoni for his development within the game.
One of the primary reasons is that Mohit Sharma’s debut for the Indian team was under the former Indian team skipper’s captaincy. Furthermore, before he was selected by Delhi Capitals, he played for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
Sharma said that Dhoni is a leader in the true sense. For example, when the team wins, MS Dhoni is nowhere around the celebrations. On the other other hand, when the team loses, he is the first one to take responsibility and is standing at the line of fire.
“When the team wins, you’ll never find him anywhere prominently, but when the team loses, he’s always right in front, taking responsibility – that’s the sign of a leader and why I admire him so much,”
Mohit Sharma believes that it is Dhoni’s gratitude and humility that actually sets him apart from the others.
“In sport, there’s a difference between a captain and a leader – I believe he’s a true leader.”
Mohit Sharma has been out of the game for ten months following a back surgery. However, he said that after going through rehab he looks forward to playing with the Delhi Capitals franchise. He feels the team is young and he is already familiar with most of the players in the team.
“I’m still excited to represent the franchise. I feel it’s a young team with a solid Indian core, and I know most of the players here – like Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, and Harshal Patel – both on and off the field very well.”
