Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes that the former Indian bowling legends Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh would have picked a lot more wickets if the Decision Review System (DRS) would have been available during their playing days. Gambhir also termed Anil Kumble as the best captain to ever have captained the Indian cricket team. 

The former Indian captain Anil Kumble finished his career as the third-highest Test wicket-taker in the world. He managed to pick 619 scalps in just 132 test matches. Harbhajan Singh, on the other hand, took 417 wickets in 103 test matches. Both Kumble and Harbhajan stand on the first and third positions respectively in the list of top wicket-takers for India in the longest format of the game. 

During the Instagram live session with Sports Tak, “With DRS technology Kumble would have ended up with 900 wickets and Harbhajan with 700 wickets. They missed lbw decisions on front-foot. Bhajju pa took 7 wickets in Cape Town, just imagine. If they would have played on rank-turners opposition would not have been able to make even 100 runs,”

Anil Kumble would have made many records: Gautam Gambhir

The 2011 World Cup winner was all praises for the former Indian captain Anil Kumble. He said that the trust that Kumble had on him was commendable. Gambhir shared an incident in which Kumble made him and Sehwag secure about their position in the Indian team. 

Gambhir revealed, “Sehwag and I were having dinner when Kumble walked in and said that you guys will open throughout the series no matter what. Even if you get 8 ducks it doesn’t matter. I have never heard such words from anyone in my career. So, if I have to give my life for someone, it would be Anil Kumble. Those words are still in my heart,”

The 38-year-old further added that Kumble as a captain would have broken many records as he has phenomenal leadership skills. Kumble got a chance to captain India only for 14 test matches throughout his cricketing career. 

Gambhir said during the live session, “Had he captained India for a longer duration like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli, he would have made many records. He captained in tough series in Australia and Sri Lanka,”
