“I Realise It Was Degrading, I Will Be Texting You Guys” – Darren Sammy Believes Being Subjected To Racism During IPL

Recently, Darren Sammy called out his teammates from IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad after learning what the word “Kalu” meant. Initially, he thought that the term meant a strong human being or stallion. Unfortunately, he realised that it was more inclined towards a racial slur.

On an Instagram story, he reveals that he knows the meaning of the term. Hence, he is completely in disbelief of the situation. He is quite vocal about ending racism and has even asked ICC to become vocal about the matter and end racism.

According to Darren Sammy, he was watching a Netflix episode which led him to realise what it meant. The second you heard the term, he soon knew what was going on. He reveals that every time someone referred to him as “Kalu”, everyone would laugh.

“So I was listening to Hasan Minhaj as to how some of the people in his culture describe black people. Instantly, I remembered that when I played for SunRisers Hyderabad, in 2013 and 2014, I was being called the exact same word that he described.”

The WI player believes that it is time to address this and clear the air

As of now, he has not revealed who the exact cricket players are he is referring to. However, he says that he will interact with each of them personally. He wants to find out whether it was done with love or whether they were indulging in acts of racism. He believes that his teammates should reach out to him as well. It is better to clear the air before situation takes a turn for the worse.

Now, I realise it was degrading, I will be texting you guys and I will ask you as to when you called me with that name, did you all mean it in any bad way or form?

So before I start calling out names I need these individuals to reach out and please tell me there’s another meaning to that word and when I was being called it,it was all in love.
