Alex Hales lost his position in the England national squad right ahead of the World Cup (50 overs) due to recreational drug test. Not one, but he could not pass two drug tests.

However, like everyone knows, players can make comebacks if that is what they truly want. Alex Hales says that he believes he has been playing the best in his career and is ready to make the comeback. He showcased brilliant performances for Sydney Thunder in Big Bash and then Karachi Kings in PSL. After playing these tournaments, the player hopes to get the call for his international return soon.

Obviously, I’d love to get my place back. Playing international cricket is the highlight of any player’s career and I still think I’ve got a lot to offer, particularly in T20.”

Hales does agree to the fact that it  has more to do with building trust than putting up an array of brilliant performances. Failing drug tests leads to the board, coach, and other team members feeling a sense of disrespect for the game and the entire team. It’s hard to earn that trust back.

While talking to Daily Mail, he says, “I certainly feel I have matured, as a player and away from the game, and hopefully I’ll get the chance to show that in the group environment again. It can be tough to rebuild that trust when you are not in the close-knit circles.”

Even as fans we must understand how important second chances are. In fact, the sports industry is made up of second chances. That is exactly what Alex Hales hopes for at the moment. He hopes that everyone understands he is learning from his mistakes and right now a mistake in his personal life has brought his professional life to staggering path.

I’d love to get that chance again. I’ve moved on and grown from the mistakes I’ve made in my private life and, hopefully, people can forgive and forget. Hopefully, I get that chance again because I feel I’m in a good head space.”

England skipper Eoin Morgan feels that “door is still open” for Hales to make a comeback.
