Interestingly, Rhodes made an application for the role of fielding coach for the Indian team last year. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in his attempt as he could not even make it to the interviews. The position was eventually given to R. Sridhar. Abhay Sharma and T Dilip finished 2nd and 3rd.
When the panel was question regarding their choice of selection, the MSK Prasad led selection panel said that according to them Rhodes is not the right fit for the team even at the number 2 or number 3 level.

“We don’t see Jonty (Rhodes) fitting in there (choice Nos 2 and 3) because those roles are more for India A level and NCA.”
On the other hand, when Jonty Rhodes was approached by a fan on social media regarding his rejection, his response was completely different than that of the selection panel’s. The veteran player responded to that question by saying that the selection panel said “no thanks”.

It seems as though the fans of the Indian team are not happy with this decision.
Here are the reactions
Took holy dip in the Gaanga of Rishi kesh.
Kept your daughter's name after India.
One of the best fielder.
Cannot get the reason of not selecting you.
You are more Indian and better fielder than the current fielding coach India have.— Subham (@subhsays) March 7, 2020
Indian team also rejected Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as batting and bowling coach respectively. May be after 2021 it would be the best time to apply for @bcci fielding coach again. 😬 2/2.

Looking back at the on-field legacy left behind by Rhodes, a particular moment highlights his immense talent as a fielder. This moment is the dismissal of Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1992 World Cup. Rhodes dismissed the player by diving straight into the stumps with ball in hand. The image of that exact moment is still making rounds of social media whenever the topic of great cricket moments surface.
