Shehan Madushanka In Police Custody For Possessing Drugs and Violating Lockdown Rules

Substance abuse is not a new topic within the sports industry. Hence, when we heard about yet another player who possesses hard drugs, it’s not shocking anymore. As of now, the cricket player who has been detained for possessing heroine is Sri Lankan player Shehan Madushanka.

The Sri Lankan police stopped the 25 year old player in the town of Pannala on Sunday. According to reports, Madushanka was in possession of heroine which amounted to just over 2 grams. He wasn’t the only one who was in the car when the police detained him. The initial reason to stop his car was due to the violation of Coronavirus lockdown rules. A magistrate has ruled that he be remanded in police custody for the next two weeks.

Shehan Madushanka’s debut for the international squad was back in 2018. Upon his international debut he managed to bat a hat-trick for the team. This was against Bangladesh during the team’s ODIs. Not only did he play the one day internationals, but also played the T20s against Bangladesh in the same year. Unfortunately, he could not play any more matches because of sustaining substantial injuries.

The Sri Lankan Government is planning to relax lockdown restrictions soon. The police have made over 60,000 arrests during the lockdown period for individuals violating the restrictions as on March 20th.
