Virat Kohli Pens a Heartfelt Note on Father’s Day

By 4 months ago

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli writes an emotional note for his late father Mr. Prem Kohli. On the occasion of Father’s day, Virat took the opportunity to urge all the people to be grateful and compassionate towards their father’s love. He also advises everyone out there to make their own paths in life and to always move forward.

Posting an old picture with his father, Virat Kohli tweeted, “This father’s day, I urge you all to be grateful for the love of your father but always look for your own path to move forward in life. You’ll never have to look behind because they’re always watching over you whether they’re physically there or not. Happy father’s day,”

My father showed me the right way: Virat Kohli

Virat was only 18 years old when his father passed away. There have been many instances when Kohli has spoken about the influence of his father Prem Kohli in his life and career. He often credits his father for making him what he is today. Recently, in an Instagram live session with Sunil Chhetri, Virat recalled an incident where his father refused to pay the bribe for his selection in the state team. Though he was upset about not getting selected, he admired his father for being honest. That incident taught him to believe in hard work and dedication.

Virat had told Sunil, “In Delhi, sometimes things happen which are not fair. There was one instance where a certain someone did not play by the rules when it came to selection criteria. He told my father that while I had the merit to be selected, a little extra (possibly a bribe) was needed to confirm my selection. My father, who was an honest middle-class man, who worked hard all his life to become a successful lawyer, did not even understand what little extra meant. My father simply said — If you want to select Virat, then let it be purely on merit. I will give you nothing extra,”

The Indian skipper added, “I did not get selected. I cried a lot. I was broken. But that incident taught me a lot. I realized that I had to be extraordinary to become successful and that I had to achieve this purely through my own effort and hard work. My father showed me the right way, through action and not merely words,”
