David Beckham’s goal that shook the world

David Beckham recently celebrated his 40th birthday, with millions wishing the mid-fielder a happy birthday.

But the success and the fame achieved by Beckham has stories of handwork and true grit.

It was a Round of 16 fixture between England and Argentina at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Saint-Étienne, on Tuesday June 30, 1998.

Beckham was fouled by none other than Diego Simeone, and the reaction of a young David Beckham earned him a red card, which led to England’s exit at the World Cup.

What followed was the toughest time in a sportsman’s life, with whole country blaming him for the exit, and even effigies burnt at many streets across England.

But David Beckham didn’t break and returned for the next World Cup as captain of the English team, and what followed was truly exceptional.
