One of the key elements of the immersive gameplay experience that PlayStation 5 delivers is the DualSense controller. Prior to its release, the new-gen console from the house of Sony promised to revolutionize the gaming experience. Other than the powerful hardware of this console, the DualSense controller was one of the major weapons in its arsenal on its quest to do so. DualSense features haptic feedback that responds to the gameplay. However, it is leagues and miles ahead of its predecessor, DualShock, in this aspect.

PlayStation head Jim Ryan explained this prior to the launch of the console. He said that the controller will recreate the tactile experience that the in-game character is facing through haptic feedback. As it turns out, DualSense has been successful in its quest of delivering an immersive experience. Naturally, a lot of new-gen titles have been trying to make the best of this feature. For instance, Housemarque has revealed that Returnal features immersive gameplay effects that players can best experience with the DualSense controller.

On a recent PlayStation Blog post, many other developing houses have made the best out of this coveted controller.

Bandai Namco, Insomniac Games, and others talk about the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller

With respect to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Insomniac is extremely happy with the way it has been able to make the best of DualSense.

We love how the fidelity of the controller’s haptics allow us to give so many things in the world a distinct feel and the range allows us to support bombastic responses like explosions all the way down to footsteps without the sensation getting old… the simple act of picking up bolts from a defeated enemy is that much more satisfying when you feel a tiny impulse from each on in your hands, complemented by a subtle controller sound.

“We’ve taken advantage of haptic feedback by connecting players to certain powered tools. You’ll feel like you’re actually turning on the Flashlight’s switch, or feel the coil of the cable in your PrawnSuit as it launches from your Grappling Arm. The drilling sensation as you drill for resources with your Drill Arm also adds to the immersion.”

Bandai Namco, developers of the action RPG Scarlet Nexus, explained how the controller adds to the gameplay experience.

“In Scarlet Nexus, players will wield psychokinetic abilities to lift and hurl objects at enemies. The  DualSense controller is a great match for this power, as both the haptics and adaptive triggers enhance the sensation of smashing pieces of the environment into foes.”

According to Life is Strange developer Deck Nine, DualSense has been able to recreate the ethereal aspects of the gameplay. To recreate the feeling of using psychic abilities in real life is no mean feat, but looks like DualSense has managed to do so.

Available in two more beautiful colors other than the usual white, DualSense has been serving what it promised.
