There had been ongoing talks about the upcoming major acquisition by Microsoft. Last year, the company’s acquisition of Zenimax Media brought in an array of developers and publishers under its wing, including Bethesda. This has made way for a lot of opportunities and opened the doors to major possibilities for the Xbox game lineup as well. The acquisition of Zenimax and, by extension, Bethesda has paved the way for numerous upcoming in-house titles from the company.

The recent talks going around about Microsoft’s upcoming acquisitions hinted at the popular voice chat platform Discord. Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft was, in fact, in talks to acquire Discord for at least $10 billion. However, currently, it seems to be a long way from home.

The popularity of the chat startup seems led to it being eligible enough for some of the major companies to find it desirable. Other than Microsoft, reports suggest that three other major companies have tried to acquire Discord in the past. However, looks like the company would like to sail in its eponymous boat, at least for the time being.

The PC and web-based versions of the chat platform, along with the app, are available for free, although users can access some extra features through a $10/month Nitro subscription. However, the fact remains that although the platform boasts huge popularity, it is yet to turn a profit.

Maybe that is a reason Discord has not entirely closed its doors on the deal that Microsoft offered. In all possibilities, the deal might be “rekindled” later on.
