Dismal British GP for Haas F1 Not Doing Guenther Steiner’s Mood any Favours

Two things are certain for the Haas F1 team, as of the 2019 season, one or both drivers royally messing up, and team boss Guenther Steiner’s patience levels going off the charts. At least when the Netflix series of Formula One: Drive to Survive comes by, there will be plenty of entertainment and guaranteed swearing from Steiner.

On a more serious note, the Haas F1 team have endured a nightmarish season and they cannot wake up. The British Grand Prix 2019 was just another nail in the coffin as a clash between Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen yielded a double retirement. In the words of an obviously fed up Steiner, “The best that our drivers could bring to the battle was a shovel – to dig the hole we’re in even deeper”

Their cause is not helped by the off-track saga surrounding their title sponsor, Rich Energy. For the uninitiated, the British energy drinks manufacturer got involved in a copyright lawsuit, courtesy Whyte Bikes, regarding their stag logo. As a result, the American team was forced to removed the logo from their cars on multiple occasions.

Then, ahead of the British Grand Prix, the situation got even worse when Rich Energy dropped Haas as a sponsored team. They cited poor results as the reason, and they were justified as their point-scoring finishes can be counted on one hand. Now, at the actual race, everything that could go wrong, went wrong for the Haas F1 team.

The Haas pair duelled with each other for position, though they were too close for the team’s liking. Then, the inevitable happened, they banged wheels and Kevin Magnussen was forced to retire, soon followed by Romain Grosjean.

In all honesty, Grosjean looks like the likelier candidate to get booted out, as he has five retirements so far this season. At least Kevin Magnussen has reached the chequered flag more times.
