The Serb, Novak Djokovic shares his thoughts about doubles players. It’s a general convention in people’s mind regarding the careers of doubles players. The players who couldn’t succeed on the singles circuit land up playing doubles tennis. “At a certain stage of the career, I don’t think that there is anybody who’s playing actively doubles now that started their tennis career intending to become a doubles player,” said Djokovic.

“They all probably tried to play singles, and then at a certain stage of their careers, they want to play doubles. They figured that that’s, you know, a better option for them, that they can be more successful in making more money and just have a more successful career in general. If I offended somebody, I’m sorry, but I haven’t heard that the singles players started, you know, his career at age of 5 or 6 dreaming that he can be a doubles champion. That’s a fact. I’m not discrediting doubles”.

The 31-year-old Serbian,  teamed up with the Wimbledon finalist, Kevin Anderson in August during the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Also, he partnered Victor Troicki during the Miami Open. “I just think that that’s just the way it is,” Djokovic said. The Serb knows the importance of this sport as a singles player. And at the same time, he understands the player switching his department to doubles with his age.  “I always want to do it – it’s an individual sport, so you want to do well in singles, but over the time as you are growing up, of course, you’re playing more doubles”, Djokovic added.

Playing doubles or singles is definitely the choice of player. Moreover, his/her circumstances and the physical abilities must support them to play their preferred choice. “Okay, I’m going to go for doubles and I’m going to see how it goes. One of my best friends on tour Nenad Zimonjic. He was one of the Number one of the world and one of the most successful active doubles players. It works well for him”, Djokovic said.
