Novak got into the business from the very first Grand Slam  of the season – The Australian Open. With 4 titles already to his name, Djokovic was the favourite to win the tournament, but the unpredictable Stan Wawrinka, who beat him in the previous year final set-up a semi-final meeting. But Djokovic had different plans this time around as he beat the Swiss 7(7)-6(1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. In the final he defeated Andy Murray 7–6(7–5), 6–7(4–7), 6–3, 6–0, becoming the first player in the open era to win the coveted trophy for the fifth time overtaking Roger Federer and Andre Agassi.
