Dominic Thiem reveals who made the first step between him and his girlfriend Kristina Mladenovic when they started dating.
World No. 5 Dominic Thiem has been dating the former world No.10 in the WTA rankings, Kristina Mladenovic for a couple of years now and has been enjoying quite a stable relationship. However, the couple had not opened up on how they started dating in 2017 until now, as the Austrian tennis sensation divulged that it was Mladenovic who took the first step prior to the start of their love story.
During an interview at the Rolex Paris Masters, last year, Dominic Thiem revealed: “She (Kristina Mladenovic) asked me for a warm-up. So it’s her, but I’m not sure she was looking for a date or something. There was a lot in between but it’s too long to answer, but that’s how it started.”
The love story between Thiem and Mladenovic had previously been revealed to have started during Dominic Thiem’s run to the finals at the 2018 French Open when Mladenovic was in the Austrian’s box for each of his games.
Earlier, Kristina Mladenovic explained in an interview that she feels to be the luckiest for the relationship with Thiem as the 26-year-old understands her job, being in the same field.
She said: “I am very lucky and fortunate with my relationship. Obviously, in many ways, it helps to have a person that understands your job and sacrifices and accepts your job as a woman.”
She added: “It’s not easy every day but there are also difficulties because you have to be apart from your partner but I think the understanding and the love is more powerful and the respect is amazing so I am the luckiest.”
Mladenovic had also revealed what she can learn from boyfriend Dominic Thiem. She said: “I do not even know. For me, he is not just a great player, a champion.”
“He is unbelievable, so consistent over the last years, he cracked the top ten rankings at a young age. You can learn it from him. We are similar in terms of smartness and commitment, but his strength, mentality and fighting spirit is what inspires me the most,” Mladenovic concluded.
Dominic Thiem is seeded fifth at the final Masters 1000 event of the season and will potentially face Milos Raonic in the second round.
