(Reuters) – England have drafted in Liam Plunkett as a replacement for Mark Wood after the injured paceman pulled out of the limited-overs matches against Pakistan in the Middle East. “Mark Wood’s ankle condition is well known and while we have managed his workloads over the summer and during the test series against Pakistan it has been decided the sensible course of action is to seek further advice from a specialist,” national selector James Whitaker said in a statement on Thursday. England, who lost the test series 2-0 after being beaten by 127 runs in the third and final match in Sharjah earlier on Thursday, face Hong Kong in a 50-over contest in Abu Dhabi on Sunday before going on to meet Pakistan in a four-match ODI series. He was first picked to play for England in 2005 when he was the leading wicket taker in first class cricket playing for Durham in English County Cricket. His dip in form later saw him move to Yorkshire, where he rediscovered himself under Jason Gillespie.

Since the rejuvenation of England?s white ball cricket, Plunkett, with his cross-seam variations, became an integral member of their One Day side. Though his place was under the scanner after Jofra Archer?s arrival, he bowled a match defining spell in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

In IPL, Plunkett played for Delhi Daredevils in 2018 in absence of Kagiso Rabada. He didn?t trouble the stats people much though as he played only seven matches in his IPL career.

Liam Plunkett is also a selfless individual. In 2007, he offered a Kidney to his ailing father which could have ended his cricket career.
