“A Technological Decision” by Cyberpunk 2077 Makers Has Made Phantom Liberty the Last Expansion of the Title

Fans are utterly disappointed with CD Projekt RED’s recent decision regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Recently, this renowned developer announced that Phantom Liberty will be Cyberpunk 2077’s only expansion. Although Cyberpunk 2077 went through a rough patch after its launch, CD Projekt RED gradually improvised all the game bugs to make it a fan-favorite title. Now fans are wondering why just one expansion.

Following its upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty’s release, people are really excited to experience this game. However, it looks like CD Projekt RED has long decided not to bring any more expansions after this.

Technological limitations stopped the CD Projekt RED from bringing any more expansion of Cyberpunk 2077

In a recent meeting with investors, CD Projekt RED announced that Phantom Liberty will be the last expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 title. When asked about the chances of further expansions, Michal Nowakowski, from CD Projekt RED said that the team decided not to bring any more expansion because of technological limitations. Previously, CD Projekt RED was working on their in-house REDengine to develop games like Cyberpunk 2077.

However, the company announced in March that they had entered into a 15-year partnership with Epic, shifting their focus to Unreal Engine projects.

CD Projekt RED is currently working with other external studios as well, apart from their own in-house projects. According to the sources, there might be a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077, as well as a new Witcher title. Developers previously announced that for the next Witcher installment, they will start using Unreal Engine 5. They decided to bring more content to the game’s open-world platform. In fact, the company used its own REDengine for the development of The Witcher 2.

With regard to Cyberpunk 2077, all is not lost. While there won’t be more expansions, Phantom Liberty is set to be a major expansion that will bring changes to every major aspect of the game. This includes Perks and skill trees, expanded AI, and even new vehicle combat!

A sneak peek at the upcoming sequel of Cyberpunk 2077

Although fans are disappointed with CD Projekt RED’s decision to not make more expansions, they will be happy, or at least intrigued to hear about a sequel. Developers announced that Orion is the new code name for this upcoming Cyberpunk sequel. They expect that Orion will take the franchise forward and create an even darker future universe for the gameplay. Sounds cool, right?

However, CD Projekt RED has remained tight-lipped about details other than their consideration for a multiplayer platform for this title. After this news, fans are extremely excited to get their hands on this upcoming sequel of the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be released on the 26th of September on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
