Among all the games that came out so far, one of the most lackluster and inherently disappointing titles is none other than the recently released game based on the legendary world of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Ring universe, The Gollum. Receiving negative reviews from all fronts, it has turned out to be one of the worst games of this year. 

However, what surprised the most was, even after such a disappointment, German developers behind Gollum, Daedalic, are reportedly working towards yet another Lord of the Rings game. Although recently they published an elaborate apology about the lackluster performance of their latest game and promised to improve over time, they are also focusing their efforts on yet another LOTR venture.

An entry in the German government’s project subsidy database has revealed intriguing details about Daedalic’s upcoming Lord of the Rings game. The game will take a unique approach by telling the story from the perspective of a unique character, offering players the opportunity to influence the events of a new region in their own choices.

Described as a story-driven, 3D-action-adventure game, this project has secured funding totaling a little over two Million Euros. This revelation has sparked both anticipation and skepticism among fans. There are concerns regarding the studio’s ability to deliver a high-quality game that does justice to the vast and influential literary universe of Lord of the Rings.

According to the project list, the untitled Lord of the Rings game is set for release in the second half of the coming year. Currently, it is named, “It’s Magic”. Daedalic faces the task of rebuilding trust and delivering a captivating and well-crafted game that can live up to the immense expectations set by the beloved universe.

On the other hand, Daedalic’s recent Lord of the Rings game, Gollum, received negative reviews, plagued by issues such as subpar writing, lackluster gameplay, and a variety of technical problems. It performed so poorly that it is unlikely to attract players unless it is heavily discounted. 

Overcoming the negative reception of Gollum, which was widely regarded as a technical and design disaster, will undoubtedly be a challenge for Daedalic. The studio is primarily known for its point-and-click adventure games, making this new venture into the Lord of the Rings franchise an important departure for the studio.
