2023 has been a bad year for game developers all over. Several game studios have undergone several rounds of layoffs that saw thousands become jobless. Destiny 2 developer and Sony subsidiary Bungie is the latest name in the line and might result in delays to multiple upcoming titles. With recent bugs plaguing Destiny 2 players, fans were hoping to see a solution sometime soon.

Sony‘s gaming division is being restructured and Bungie has been hit with serious waves by the decision. The PlayStation makers acquired Bungie last year for a stupendous $3.6 billion. However, the latest layoffs weren’t on the cards but the employees were notified of the decision on October 30. While the community still reels from the news, we have to wait to see its impacts in the coming months.

Along with new Destiny 2 content, Marathon, another new game from Bungie is also expected to be postponed significantly amidst Bungie letting go of employees. This comes as Sony’s decision to cut corners in its PlayStation division despite the acquisition having the clause of Bungie operating as an independent unit within Sony. The exact number of layoffs is not confirmed yet but can be assumed to be a significant one.
