

The PS5 launch event was packed with a lot of surprises. Fans would not have expected some of the games that were revealed to make a debut at all. Amidst all those AAA titles, one reveal trailer caught many people’s attention. Bugsnax, from the creators of the 2014 adventure game Octodad: Deadliest Catch. In an interview with USGamer, Co-founder and President of Young Horses spoke about what the game actually is, what players will experience, and more.

What is Bugsnax all about?
The co-founder Philip Tibitoski revealed that there are some stylistic links between the two Young Horses projects; Octodad and Bugsnax. However, the perspectives and objectives of Bugsnax are very different.
“Bugsnax is a first-person adventure game where you play as a journalist who is sent a mysterious film from an adventurer named Elizabert Megafig. She says she’s found these things called Bugsnax, these half-snack half-bug creatures, and she wants you to come and document her discovery with her group of misfit followers. You go to the island, you find that she is nowhere to be found, and instead run into some of her followers”, Tibitoski says.

It is safe to assume that the character that explains the island from the trailer is the journalist. The journalist invites other players to the game to explore these half-snack half-bug characters and document them. Players will not find Elizabert Megafig but will interact with her followers.

The story then revolves around finding out what happened to Megafig and what these ‘Bugsnax’ are. It’s obvious from the trailer that when players eat Bugsnax, their body undergoes a change. Depending on the creature you eat, one part of your body transforms into what the creature was like. Now some of the foods are actual snacks whereas others look like bugs.

PS5 Dual Sense controller to take a bigger role
The game will also make the best use of Sony’s new Dual Sense controller for PS5. Vibrations will be utilized to the extent where you’ll feel the intensity of a bug trying to escape.
“Whether it’s running through a stream of water or when trying to catch a Bugsnak, it being in your trap and finding “oh, is it trying to escape?” You can feel how intense it is and how close it is to escaping“, the Co-founder said.
Tibotski has also confirmed that more details about the game are around the corner. By the looks of it, Bugsnax looks innovative on its own right. The game will make use of the new-gen features that makes it a game worth waiting for.
