He performed a hilarious where he mixed up the bubbly characters of Super Mario Bros. and the post-apocalyptic rugged world of the Last of Us. 

His performance as Mario was so immersive that most of the fanbase rolled on to social media to demand a recast in the upcoming Mario Movie. They requested Pedro to take up the role of the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, Chris Pratt. With direct comments, memes, and jokes, the fans made themselves very clear.

Another reason for the public distaste is the Actor’s performance in the role. Instead of trying to mimic the iconic voice of Mario, Pratt opted to deliver the voice line in his own voice and accent. This raised an uproar, as many believed, not only was it a disrespect to the source, but it is also culturally inappropriate as the character of Mario has an Italian origin, so should be some Italian accents in his voice lines.
