God of War has become an iconic saga ever since the first game was released for the PlayStation consoles years ago. However, the franchise got an unprecedented boost from the rebooted entry that arrived in 2018. Developed by Santa Monica Studio, this game not only impressed the critics, but also made history with the astonishing sales.

However, it looks like the original God of War is not yet done with its run. Just days before the anticipated launch of its sequel Ragnarok, on the PlayStation 5, the first installment has crossed a new sales milestone!
God of War from 2018 goes past 23 million sold units for PlayStation 4 and PC!
The original entry made its debut four years ago amid rave reviews from the critics and fans. Eventually, it became a smash hit on the PS4 for Sony while selling millions of units. It’s already among the top-selling IPs on the PlayStation. Thanks to the roaring success it received, the game also made its way on the PC platform earlier this year in January.
Coming onto the Steam digital store front, God of War broke many records which was very much expected. However, Sony has now revealed the magnitude of its performance in terms of numbers as well. According to the recent earnings report from Sony, 2018’s God of War has now sold over 23 million copies worldwide. This new information also includes the sales from the PC port.

Furthermore, the report also mentions the PC version succeeded in selling 3 million copies in the first three days of its release. With that said, the original GoW now stands alongside The Last of Us, Horizon, and Uncharted as the most-prized PlayStation gaming IPs. This is definitely a huge win for Sony, especially considering the fact that the next chapter in the GoW saga is merely days away.
It looks like the upcoming installment will also set new records for the ever growing franchise by Santa Monica Studio. Ragnarok comes out on November 9th, 2022. Players will be able to enjoy it on the PS5 and PS4.
