Microsoft has had a history of experimenting with the Xbox design and its looks, especially while doing collaborations for special occasions. One such moment took place almost six years ago, during the launch of Forza Horizon 3 when the company did something forgettable, to say the least.

It was during the year 2016 when the third entry in the Forza Horizon franchise was about to make its debut. So it was apparent for Microsoft to do a makeover for the then-popular console Xbox One to celebrate the release of the game.

Microsoft’s division in Germany ran a contest for the fans in 2016 ahead of the release of Forza Horizon 3. As part of this, it revealed a custom Xbox One S inspired by the Audi R8 supercar, which was one of the playable vehicles in the game.

This Xbox One S based on the Audi R8 was the top prize in the contest. The latter was only applicable to the German residents. But the custom console was so odd-looking that most the people were speechless about its appearance.

Speaking about it in detail, then the console even had a custom controller inspired by Audi’s car. The controller had a big red stop and start button instead of the Xbox button. There were leather inserts as well on both the sides.

However, it was the console that was the topic of discussion among many people on social media. It was quite evident that not everyone was a fan of this weird Audi R8 Xbox One S edition.

It goes without saying that Microsoft has now come a long way since this forgettable incident happened in 2016. These days, it mostly introduces some of the best-looking custom consoles. For example, the Top Gun: Maverick-inspired Xbox or even the one involving the retro look of the ’80s, based on Netflix’s Stranger Things that recently saw the release of its fourth season.

What are your thoughts on the weird crossover of Audi and Xbox One from six years ago? Did you like it when it was first introduced?
