The highly anticipated game Hogwarts Legacy has finally dropped today, but not everyone is excited to play it. According to reports, several streamers and community members, including Valkyrae and Hasan Piker, have taken to social media to boycott the game due to its association with J.K. Rowling.

This is because the author of the world-famous novel series “Harry Potter” has been a controversial figure since 2020 due to her public comments that were widely perceived as “transphobic”. This has thus caused a rift among the fanbase, leading to calls for a boycott of the game.

Back in 2020, at the peak of Covid-19, the super famous British author of the wizarding world, J. K. Rowling, had a hard time convincing the LGBTQ community of her stance on “menstruation”. Although it was old news for most, it seems that as Warner Bros. published the hit game Hogwarts Legacy to the public, it has yet again scratched off the wounds that were supposed to be healed.

Thus, in the process of staying away from all the controversy regarding Hogwarts Legacy, it seems that popular streamers are also sidelining the game entirely. And one of the names on the list is none other than Valkyrae, who is simply denying to play the game to not upset her fanbase. She stated that she thinks it’s not worth playing the game and that she would rather watch her friends play it.

She added that she feels like she has a large audience and she wants to be careful not to hurt anyone. In her words, “I think I’m going to just watch my friends play it. I don’t think it’s worth it. Personally, in my own opinion, I don’t think it’s worth it. I feel like I have a large audience and I want to be careful. I don’t want to like, hurt anybody.”

Hasan Piker is in the same think tank

However, she is not alone in this personal boycott, as it seems that the streamer Hasan Piker, who has taken a stance against playing the game, is also going with the same boycott rail. He opined on the boycott by a section of gamers, stating that he personally doesn’t care about it and that it’s silly.

He also added that he doesn’t think the boycott will significantly impact the consumer side. Despite this, Hasan has made it clear that he is not playing the game due to the risk of being bullied and called transphobic, a risk he is unwilling to take.

“I personally don’t give a sh*t about that and I think it’s so silly. I don’t think people are going to genuinely be able to make the consumer side like a boycott on a game like this,” Hasan Piker said.

He further said, “The only reason why I’m not playing this game and I know a bunch of other people are not playing this game. Is because we know that it’s not worth it to get f***king bullied endlessly and called transphobic endlessly when we have massive queer communities and audiences. That’s it.”
