This demo starts with a puppet given life who is then called, for some undisclosed purpose, into a broken city. As he picks up his first weapon, players are asked to choose how they want to play the game. The player decided to go with a balanced combat experience rather than one with a focus on dexterity.

The controls are the same; R1 and R2 do light and string damage, while the left hand is primarily used for blocking. The combat feels pretty smooth too. But soon enough, players will find out that this game actually has a problem with hitboxes. They would not know where to dodge and when. This takes a while to get used to, and due to this small problem, players might think the combat is clunky.
But once one understands how this game works, they will see themselves slashing through enemies in no time. Eventually, they will be met with a miniboss who can end up being a nightmare on account of hitboxes. The area where players fight this miniboss is also a good example of how shortcuts work in this game. Similar to its inspiration, Lies of P has various doors all over the levels to open some shortcuts. This makes the run back to the boss a little easier.

The city of Krat is beautiful to behold. It is a Victorian city that has fallen into madness, and players find some sort of evidence of that madness in every corner. Eventually, as players make their way through the first level, they are introduced to something called “The Stargazer”. This is this game’s lantern; players can use it to level up and sort their storage.
The game has one other nifty feature, that is once gamers run out of their recovery item, they can get one back just by hitting enemies. This can work as an exciting survival mechanic when fighting a boss.

All in all, if this game did not have this clunky feel to it, there would have been no problem calling it as good as Bloodborne. It was still a very enjoyable experience and would be at the top of many players’ lists of must-play games for 2023.
