As the GPU prices are dropping steadily, fans are now getting excited to add them into their collection. Although it’s a good thing for all gamers out there, scalpers are having to endure huge losses. In one such instance, a content creator on TikTok who claims to be a scalper has reportedly blabbered about a monetary loss he had to go through.

The content creator mentions his regrets for choosing to become a scalper. However, some people on the internet are, in no way, ready to believe his words!

For those wondering, scalpers are basically re-sellers who take advantage of unfavorable industry situations (like the global chip shortage or supply constraints) to make huge amounts of financial profit.

Scalpers basically buy retail units and re-sell them at a ridiculous price to make a profit. GPU prices had hiked over the years due to crypto-mining, the global GP chip shortage, and of course, the pandemic causing slower production, leading to a rise in scalping practices all over the world.

Not only did scalping affect the GPU industry, but it also managed to annoy Sony and Microsoft. Scalpers managed to take advantage of the supply shortage of PS5 and Xbox Series ever since their launch.

It’s finally a favorable time for PC gamers to upgrade to a new RTX 3000-series card or plan to get an upcoming one! GPU prices fell substantially in the last couple of months due to the ‘mining exodus’, as reported by Tom’s Hardware. And it’s certainly not favorable for scalpers and miners anymore.

A GPU scalper narrates his regretful story of losing 23k

A TikTok video, which has the person refer to himself as a scalper, went viral yesterday. The scalper is reportedly at a $23,000 loss and regrets about investing in the industry. The video also includes him showing a bunch of GPU units stacked in a box, which he was planning to sell but couldn’t due to the downfall.

The viral video also attracted a huge debate on Reddit. While some said that the video was a ‘cry for attention’, others called him a miner and refused to believe his claim. On the other hand, some found the revelations perfectly plausible.

More importantly, away from the debate, every non-scalper was happy thinking about all the loss scalpers and miners are having to go through in 2022.

Scalpers have successfully managed to annoy a huge number of people over the years, including the manufacturers and retailers. And their downfall was bound to happen at some point.

While things are finally looking good for the GPU industry, PS5 fans are still having to face the scalping issue. Although Sony has been reportedly working on a “holographic seal” solution to battle PS5 scalpers in Japan, not much has been reported about the idea’s success. Scalpers still continue to baffle the PS5 supply chain in the US and countries beyond it.

We hope manufacturers, and retailers find a successful way to combat scalping growth in the future. For now, GPU fans can finally get their dream card or upgrade at MSRP without the fear of ‘getting scalped’!
