While the sword was first identified by data miners, Youtuber Ziostorm was the first one to document it for players to see.

While Ziostorm identified the weapon, it was a passionate player who discovered it in the game, known as @Pinopinisimo on Twitter. This player came across the sword within a collection of gravestone swords scattered throughout the game world. In the tweet, they stated, “I had that sword stuck in my head for weeks after I watched your video, so you can imagine how I jumped from my chair when I noticed it.”
What more do we know about these swords?
Notably, this sword currently serves a purely ornamental purpose in the game. However, it is evident that the game’s developer, FromSoftware, initially had bigger intentions for it. The intrigue deepens with the observation that several other sword icons within the game share a common hilt design with this newly discovered sword.

However, these swords exhibit starkly different aesthetics. One appears untouched and brand new, while the other bears signs of severe fire damage. The third sword looks like it has not yet been unsheathed, resulting in a twisted and deformed appearance. Ziostorm put forth a theory. He suggested that swords with shared hilt designs might depict different stages of the same weapon, achievable through player progression during a quest.
