Produced by Paramount and Sega, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is a movie featuring the incredible runner alongside his famous sidekick, Tails. The story follows Sonic and Tails as they look for a powerful emerald that can cause destruction in the wrong hands.

In fact, the movie also features Sonic’s long-time nemesis Dr. Eggman, who is now partnered up with Knuckles and is looking to grab that emerald at the first chance.

The much-anticipated sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog found its way into the box office on April 8th in US. Since then, the movie has received a lot of attention from Sonic fans around the world. Now, as reports suggest, the love for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has now amounted to $400,015,446 million globally, but it has also found its way to the list of highest-grossing video game movies of all time.

According to statistics from BoxOfficeMojo, Sonic’s movie is currently 8th on the list of Worldwide Box Office (2022). It is also reportedly the 5th highest grosser among video game adaptions of all time.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has also become the highest-grossing video game adaption in the United States, with $190,564,388 and counting. Surprisingly, Sonic The Hedgehog at $148,974,665 was topping the domestic chart in the video game genre all this while.

Since the movie is still running in theatres, fans can expect the already astonishing numbers to surpass a few more records. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is already the 5th highest-grossing video game movie of all time, with the Tom Holland starrer Uncharted loitering just ahead of it at 4th.

The highest grosser in this genre is Warcraft, followed by Detective Pikachu and Rampage. If things go well, we can see Sonic make a few steps up the leaderboard, possibly surpassing Uncharted soon!

It’s indeed incredible to see Sonic’s latest movie achieving such success. However, it doesn’t end here for Sonic fans. Back in February, Paramount announced a new live-action series and a third Sonic movie.
