Sony is probably planning on something massive! The Sony PlayStation console is known to provide gamers with well-built single-player experiences. The stories they tell are incredible, and the performances they provide for their fans are nothing short of masterful. Hence, when several games as a service project were announced by the platform holder, some fans were understandably worried. This might have changed now.

However, now that Jim Ryan is preparing to leave the company behind, it appears the platform holder is already loosening up on this decision. It looks like the company is no longer interested in that GAAS push, and they have partnered with two big publishers to catch on!

Sony has a large number of developers under its PlayStation Studios name. Those developers no doubt excel at creating exciting video game experiences. They are so good that one of the least-rated PlayStation exclusives recently was Days Gone, and even that game sits comfortably at 71 on Metacritic.

But when they are pushed into making something they do not care for as much, they can falter. Most Sony PlayStation Studios were shaken by the fact that the company had decided to push GAAS on their fans. They commissioned their studios to work on some such games. But now a leak suggests that this push is slowly being reversed. They have already tasked SEGA and Bandai Namco to develop a couple of PlayStation 5 games based on first-party properties. One must note that this development took place after PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan announced his retirement.

This would be very interesting, given the fact that they hardly let outside publishers and developers touch their IPs. And if someone touches those IPs, Sony eventually buys those studios. There’s no news on what they are developing, and there’s no confirmation on whether Sony will eventually propose an acquisition deal or not.

What might they be working on?

The leak also suggests that Sega is working on an old Sony IP, and there’s no news about what Namco Bandai is working on. Is Sega about to revive games like Killzone or Resistance? It would be unusual for Sega to work on a shooter, as they have never had experience with that. Maybe the Heavenly Word?

There’s not even a hint about what Namco might have in their head. But as it has always happened before. They might just be working on a fighting game such as Playstation All-Stars Brawl. Given the fact that Namco is an expert in fighting games. fans will eventually know.
