The recently concluded Ubisoft Forward event has confirmed a major feature for Star Wars: Outlaws. The game which was first announced during the Xbox Showcase few days ago, is set to be an open-world title. While this space-based project is scheduled to come out next year, there’s another such game set to release in 2023 itself – Bethesda’s Starfield. Interestingly, there happens to be a massive difference between these two, despite being somewhat similar.

Especially, when it comes to how the two games handle the flying mechanics. In the Xbox Showcase, it was revealed that Starfield will include its takeoff and landing sequences in the cut scenes. Meaning that players won’t have the freedom to personally approach their spacecraft by walking down to it and settle in. This is where Star Wars: Outlaws shines.

In case anyone missed to keep track of the latest Outlaws gameplay overview trailer, the protagonist Kay is forced to run from an Imperial agent. During this scene in the clip, below, the character is seen running towards her ship, Trailblazer. She then enters inside and flies away with her companion droid ND-5.

Explaining this part from the trailer, creative director Julian Gerighty mentioned that his team wanted to have a “seamless experience of going on foot, to your speeder, to your spaceship and out of the atmosphere and into space.” In other words, surface takeoff will be a crucial part of Star Wars: Outlaws.

Furthermore, director Mathias Kalson told that they wanted to “offer that full, seamless experience of sitting in the cantina in a city on a planet’s surface, jumping on your own speeder, driving to your own ship”. On the other hand, Starfield won’t give such pleasures to the gamers. The space epic will have cut scenes for piloting the ships, instead of giving them the autonomy to operate it manually.

Considering the fact that Bethesda’s game is also open-world, it should have implemented such mechanisms. However, it’s too early to give a final verdict. The Xbox exclusive might end up surprising everyone when it comes out on September 6. As for Ubisoft’s Star Wars: Outlaws, it arrives in 2024.
