Steam Deck was originally going to get released in December 2021. But because of the shortage of chips, Valve had to postpone the release to February 2022.

Steam Deck: the good news

On the 17th of December 2021, the officials at Valve showed their optimism about the upcoming launch, where Greg Coomer himself said in an interview with PC Gamer:

“We’re still bummed that we had to move from end of this year to beginning of next. But yeah, all the signs are pointing to us being able to ship in February.”

Plus, there’s also a good chance, as has been mentioned before, that availability won’t be a problem.

It’s a real product launch, so many thousands of people right away are going to receive Decks.”

Good news for people looking to buy the Steam Deck, and bad news for PS/Xbox users.

Who is Greg Coomer?

Some fans might be unfamiliar with Greg Coomer. He’s the product designer at Valve Corporation. To be honest, this announcement is a sign of relief for all the fans around the world. And it looks like for now, at least, Steam Deck is immune to the global chip and semiconductor issue.

Apart from this announcement. Greg also shared that Valve is going to take it steadily in terms of supply and availability. This means that during the time of the launch, the devs will cover a major number of customers. Then the devs will continue to supply Steam Deck in a controlled manner in the coming time span. The reason behind this is not to have a massive launch and then continue to be on a declining graph in terms of supply.
