After Getting Bombarded with 25,000 Negative Reviews, Overwatch 2’s Steam Debut Is Becoming Nothing Less Than A Nightmare

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch 2 is a first-person shooter game, which is both a sequel and replacement for the hero shooter game Overwatch. Released in 2022, Overwatch 2 offered both player-versus-player and multiplayer platforms for gamers to immerse in the world of FPS games. However, the game ultimately couldn’t deliver results as expected. 

Overwatch 2 was finally released on Steam on the 10th of August this year. However, the responses were quite negative from the users. Following the flood of negative reviews, Overwatch 2 became one of the worst Steam launches of the year. 

Negative responses hit Overwatch 2 on Steam

Overwatch 2 was available on most devices including Windows, but this game was released on Steam on the 10th of August. Within a day of its release, Steam spotted some of the worst reviews from fans about Overwatch 2. In fact, fans dropped over 25000 negative comments on Steam about Overwatch 2. According to Steam’s report, only 14% of the viewers’ comments about the game ended up being positive.

Fans criticized Overwatch’s free-to-play structure and its weak take on hero missions. While people praised its design, characters, and exclusive multiplayer map, ultimately, they felt that Overwatch 2 had serious fundamental flaws.

Steam’s data also revealed that at the time of launch, 52K+ players showed their active interest in the game. It seems that it was unable to meet fans’ expectations. Blizzard Entertainment previously spoke about completely removing the hero missions from Overwatch 2, which disappointed the fans very much. They had initially made this game as an addition to the prequel’s story mode.

Additionally, developers brought three new campaigns for players in Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle, which is priced at $15. Fans complained that without the hero missions, they will not be interested to pay for the additional story modes in Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 is a hero shooter game, where players have to select a hero character from a given 35 characters. There are many classes for the characters from damage class to support and tank classes with separate responsibilities. In this FPS game, players can choose to combat in different modes and maps.

Additionally, they can choose either competitive matches or casual matches for their enjoyment. Although in Overwatch, developers allowed six players in a team, they reduced the team size to five people in Overwatch 2. This game’s PvP mode Push, which is similar to tug of war, brought much attention to the game.
