Xbox Series S|X Rides the Popularity Wave to Close the Gap to the PlayStation 5 in Lifetime Sales

The PS5 vs. Xbox sales battle has been going on since its initial release. Both Sony and Microsoft have been trying to conquer the markets with their next-gen products. But one of them has always lagged as the other has major control over the markets.

Sony has always outperformed Microsoft, thanks to their massive fan base created over the years. Despite Microsoft launching the Xbox Series X two days prior to the PS5 release, their arch-rivals have managed to consistently rule over the markets. To mention dates, Xbox Series X/S was launched on November 10th, 2020 while the PS5 hit the markets on November 12th. The consoles were initially launched in the U. S and then moved to the global markets.

After its release, Sony caught pace from day one as they posted higher sales than Microsoft every month. The customer relied more on the blue brand instead of green, giving the company a handsome revenue. As a result, the Japanese giant took a massive lead until the past few months. Post that, Xbox got back into the race as their sales results looked quite stronger than before.

Industry leaders always have a massive competition to decide the best amongst them. They’re always looking to build the best products to attract more and more customers and increase their sales. Today, we shed light on two such companies in the gaming industry who rule it in terms of consoles.

With 19 months of release in the US and global markets, here’s how the sales numbers look for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The numbers come in from a console sales montior, VGChartz, who solely keeps track of them.

To talk in-depth, the past few months have been in favor of Xbox as they have cut down the massive lead created by PS5. The Xbox Series X|S has outsold PlayStation 5 by 718,622 units.
