Ex India Captain Kapil Dev Praises MS Dhoni and his Contribution to Cricket

Former Indian captain, Kapil Dev is well known for guiding the Indian team to World Cup glory in 1983. Recently, he showered a lot of praise on fellow former captain, MS Dhoni. He was of the opinion that MS Dhoni was one of the sport’s biggest contributors.

Now, with MS Dhoni entering the twilight of his career as he looks ahead to the World Cup 2019. Kapil Dev has praised MS Dhoni to the high heavens and back, inspite of his slip in form. It is also clear to many that the World Cup 2019 will likely be Dhoni’s final tournament. So, fans and pundits alike, will be hoping for a swansong from the former India skipper.

While talking to IANS, Dev admitted, “No one knows how long he wants to play and how long his body can continue to take the workload. But, there is no other cricketer who has served the country so well as Dhoni. We should respect him and wish him good luck. I hope that he wins this World Cup too,”

Kapil Dev even spoke about the Indian contingent that will head to England for the World Cup 2019.

“This Indian team looks very good. However, it won’t be very easy. They have to play like a team. I hope that they will have no injuries,” he said, “If they have a stroke of luck, they will definitely win.”

The 60-year old even commented on the much disputed move to choose Dinesh Karthik as a backup keeper to MS Dhoni, over youngster, Rishabh Pant.

He assured, “The selectors have done their job. Let’s respect the team. They have picked Karthik over Pant, then it’s alright. We should just believe that the selectors have done a good job.”

For now, though, all the attention will be trained on the ongoing IPL 2019 as it continues to rage on.
