The all-new PS5 promises to bring about a “paradigm shift” in gaming, as PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan once put it. In an interview with BBC News, he had said that the solid-state drive (SSD) of PS5 will eliminate in-game loading times. Now that will be a really big change in the gaming experience. Keith Lee mentions this as well while talking about Godfall. In the interview with Gamespot, Lee says that the game will make use of PS5’s SSD for faster transfers and high graphics performance.

But, he is more excited to talk about how the experience of playing this game on the PS5 will be very different because of the console’s DualSense controller. This controller sends physical feedback of various movements and contact during the gameplay and we’re not talking about mere vibrations.

“What’s exciting about the DualSense controller is the fact that it has stereo vibration in terms of the rumblers, as well as resistance on the triggers, so one of the things that you can do is to create, for the first time, a sensation of your weapon hitting another weapon and how it resonates,” Lee says.

And it’s not just that either! The vibrations of the controller reflect the sensation of different surfaces and contact. For example, the vibrations on the controller, when a character is sliding across the sand, will give the user the physical sensation of the surface of the sand.

In the interview mentioned above, Jim Ryan talked about this as well. The example he gave was that of Gran Turismo. Lee says that exploiting this feature in Godfall makes it even more exciting.

“We have lots of different types of weapons, we can have the clash of weapons, that there could be ways that we can notify the player if an enemy is offscreen about to attack you because it is always very challenging to get a full awareness of your surroundings in a third-person melee combat game,” he explains.

Now this feels like the future. Already, PlayStation has managed to bring a taste of the future in its design. Moreover, the gameplay experience it promises to offer lives up to the expectations we have from the evolution of gaming.
