He is part of the Alpine driver academy but will have to a bit longer before gets to be behind the wheel of an F1 car. However, Piastri will be their reserve driver in 2022. This is because Esteban Ocon has a contract till 2024, while Fernando Alonso’s deal expires at the end of next season.

A huge advantage for Piastri in his racing career is that he is managed and mentored by F1 legend, Mark Webber. Webber has faith in the youngster and urges that having Oscar in F1 is a must.

Mark Webber has faith in Oscar Piastri to joining Formula One

Webber talked about Piastri joining the big league in 2023 and his response showed the confidence that he has in the 20-year-old.

Speaking to Speedcafe.com, as quoted by Motorsport.com, Webber said, “Absolutely, it’s a must for us. This is the last possible date. I think we’re all aware of that. So yes, 2023 will be the latest date, but even before that there may be some opportunities that you may never know. Oscar is in a splendid position. He will go a long way next year and is motivated and hungry at the same time.”

“We all know that he deserves to be in Formula 1 next year, so no one questions that, but that’s how conditions in the driver market have improved. There aren’t many seats there.” (Translated from Turkish via Google Translate)
