BREAKING: Honda to Quit F1 in 2021 Leaving Red Bull and AlphaTauri With a Big Headache

Honda made a comeback to Formula 1 in 2015 by becoming the engine suppliers for Mclaren. After their six years of contribution to F1, Honda have made an unexpected announcement during a press conference at their headquarters in Tokyo. The Japanese company have announced their decision to exit from Formula 1 by the end of the next season.

Earlier today, Honda released a statement at their headquarters. “Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that it has decided to conclude its participation in the FIA Formula One (F1) World Championship as a Power Unit at the end of the 2021 season,” the statement read.
Mclaren were the first team to receive an Engine from Honda back in 2015. The three-year collaboration with Mclaren came to an end after the 2017 season. The three years were miserable for Honda as they failed to give Mclaren a fast car. It was the prime reason as to why Mclaren terminated their deal with Honda.
Later in 2018, Toro Rosso became the second team on the grid opting for Honda’s Engines. But this time around, Honda gave the team a decent engine that helped Toro Rosso to step up and fight with the mid-field teams.
Eventually, in the 2019 season, after witnessing Toro Rosso’s performance, Red Bull joined their sister team to get their Engines from the Japanese company. This year is the second season for both the teams to receive the Engines from Honda. The teams have also likely planned their future in Formula 1 with Honda.

Red Bull have raised their game in Formula 1 since Honda started supplying their Engines to the team. They were often contending for the podium places since the last season.
During this season too, despite the domination by Mercedes, Red Bull, on multiple occasions, took their fight to the Silver Arrows. Max Verstappen gave his team their first win in 2020 at the British Grand Prix.

But the news of Honda leaving F1 by the end of next year may have dented Red Bull’s plans for the future with the technical regulation changes from 2022. As of now, the team is yet to reveal its decision. But it is only a matter of time before Red Bull makes an announcement on their future suppliers.
