Daniel Ricciardo Re-Affirms Key F1 Goal Despite Alarming Slump

McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo has stated that he is racing Formula One to compete and possibly win the world championship. He further states he is not in the sport to make numbers or have certain stats under his belt but to fight for the title.
So far this season, Ricciardo hasn’t been his best, as he has missed out on finishing in the top-five in all six races for now. However, The Australian driver is optimistic and sees the upcoming triple-header as an opportunity to get back into his groove.

As quoted by GPFans, Ricciardo said, “I want to be world champion and I’ve never said I race to make up numbers. I think I would still do it because you still have the chance to win races and still have some highs for sure.”
“But I think if it ended for me today, obviously I’m not world champion, I’d still look back on this journey and be extremely grateful for it,” Ricciardo concluded.

The Australian is happy with the opportunity the sport gave him in his life
The 31-year-old driver did enjoy his time on the grid, having some highs, such as winning seven-grand Prix with Red Bull, and podium in Germany with Reanult, and some lows, as he is going through right now with his Woking-based team. However, he aims to bounce back and prove his doubters wrong. Furthermore, Ricciardo is happy that F1 gave a chance to a be driver at the highest level and travel the world.
He said, “I’ve had some amazing experiences, many highs and I think just life experience as well. Being able to travel the world and do what we do.”

“So yes, the big trophy is why we do it but we’ve taken so much more from it on our way to trying to get there and even if we don’t get there, I think we still have a lot of fulfillment.”
“I guess the answer is I’d still do it,” The McLaren driver explained.
