Despite Cold Welcome, Andretti Finds Two Allies in Merciless F1 Piranha Club

Andretti, one of the most illustrious names in American motorsport history, has been attempting to join the F1 as the 11th team for a long. The leading names in the industry have, however, been criticizing them. But now, it appears that the two supporters from the F1 paddock have given the former McLaren driver a glimmer of optimism.

With the success of the Miami Grand Prix and the introduction of new American driver Logan Sargeant, the US audience is now looking forward to the entry of another American team after Haas. However, it has been suggested frequently that Andretti’s enrollment would be a little challenging. But, as it turns out, the racing family has got the support of McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, and Alpine. Moreover, it appears Michael has a close connection with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. With this revelation, it is reasonable to assume Michael Andretti will make his Formula One Piranha Club debut soon.

Talking with Forbes, Andretti said, “Zak wants to do everything possible to help us achieve the goal and the same goes for Alpine. They are two excellent allies. Zak has been very supportive, gives me advice and we help each other. I helped him get into IndyCar and he’s doing the same. As for Formula 1, I can say that Stefano Domenicali was very happy when the Cadillac name emerged. It will also be a huge thing for Formula 1 to bring Cadillac and General Motors, given the growth in the United States.” 

As per rumors to rumors, the Andretti family even attempted to buy their way into the sport by seizing control of Alfa Romeo. Unfortunately, the deal fell through. But what caused the Alfa Romeo deal to fail?

When negotiations for an agreement with Alfa Romeo didn’t work out, a lot many assumed that it was because of financial reasons. Later, though, Michael Andretti ended all of the rumors by breaking his quiet. He declared, “I’d just like to put an end to some of these rumors that the deal fell through because of financial reasons.”

“It basically came down to control issues in the final hours of the negotiations. That’s what killed the deal.”

He concluded by saying, “I’ve always said if the deal is not right, we’re not going to do it, and in the end it wasn’t right. So we continue to look for other opportunities.”
