Charles Leclerc “Paid for Mistakes” During the Turkish GP: Binotto

Charles Leclerc had a frustrating race last weekend in Istanbul. The Ferrari driver had a difficult qualifying session and was knocked out during Qualifying 2 and started the race at P12. However, the Monegasque climbed the positions and was in contention for a podium with just a few corners to go.
Leclerc tried a move on Sergio Perez to overtake him for P2. Unfortunately, he went wide of the track with just two more corners to go. Sebastian Vettel saw the opening and overtook Leclerc for P3.
Leclerc was absolutely furious with himself for losing out on a podium finish. However, he was happy for Sebastian’s podium and congratulated him. But he could not contain his disappointment over his own mistake.

Mattia Binotto acknowledged Leclerc’s feelings and shared his views on Leclerc’s race. “Leclerc? I understand his disappointment, we are disappointed with him.”
He said, “He proved very fast, he showed his talent but he paid for mistakes like the start or some long: without those mistakes he could aim for second place.”

Binotto explains Charles Leclerc drove really well at the Istanbul Park
Binotto explained that he was disappointed with Leclerc. However, he was impressed by both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel’s this weekend.
He said, “In general the drivers were very good, because it was a difficult race, with very particular conditions. We saw a competitive car, this is the most important point because it means that we have understood the direction of development.”

Considering the racing conditions, the Ferrari duo drove sensationally to finish in the Top-4. Sebastian Vettel started from P14 and Charles Leclerc started from P12. However, they displayed sublime control to finish the race at P3 and P4, respectively.

Mattia Binotto was not present with the team at the Turkish Grand Prix. He did not shy away from the funny side of the win. He joked, “Best race of the year with me at home? I announce that I will also be in Maranello for the Sakhir GP …”
