The Brit is in his last contract at Williams and has been tipped to drive for the Silver Arrows next year, replacing Valtteri Bottas. Knowing the power of a Mercedes he thinks he can grab his first win in F1. However, he also teases with the new regulations coming he might just have his first victory at the Grove-based outfit.

Speaking to Jenson Button from Sky Sports at Zandvoort on when he is likely to win his first F1 race, George said, “ooo… next year.”

On being told by Button that he just gave away his announcement, he replied, “I haven’t, I haven’t at all! Big regulations change next year, Williams 2013 finished ninth in the constructor’s, and the following year, they were fighting for victories and pole position.”

“To be honest, regardless next year I think it will be an exciting year for Formula One, and I am glad to be here as Formula One seems to be taking a good turn to greatness,” Russell concluded.

How long will Russell have to wait for Mercedes to come calling?

Ever since the one-off at Sakhir last year where he filled in for Lewis Hamilton. The Brit has shown exceptional form behind the wheel of a Mercedes. Now in 2021, his last year with Williams, Russell is hoping to get that second seat next to the 7-times world champion.

Coincidentally, Bottas has his contract running out as well with the Brackley-based squad. So it is no surprise that the Silver Arrows see this as the perfect opportunity to bring in Russell.

The only question that remains over this whole saga, is when will it be announced? Regardless, who do you think will be at Mercedes next year? Will it be the Finn or the underrated Russell? Let us know in the comments below.
