George Russell has displayed moments of brilliance behind the wheel over the course of this season. Fernando Alonso, Toto Wolff, Lewis Hamilton have all praised the young Briton for his racecraft.

The Williams driver came tantalizingly close to a podium finish at Imola, but unfortunately, he crashed into a wall setting that dream alight.

The competition in Formula 1 is cut-throat. With just 20 drivers on the grid, drivers have to prove themselves to retain their throne. Racing Point had announced earlier this year that Sergio Perez will leave at the end of the season.

The Mexican was further linked to the Williams team. There were rumors that Sergio Perez was going to replace George Russell come 2021.

In the end, the talks between Perez and Williams came to an end, and it was officially announced that Williams will sport the same driver lineup next season.

Russell admitted that the rumors of losing his seat did weigh on his mind. He said, “It was unsettling. When you see all of this speculation, I knew it was all speculation, but there’s no smoke without fire sort of thing.”

George Russell on a mission

George Russell is a promising prospect, to say the least. This season alone, he has catapulted Williams into Qualifying 2 many times. He has out-qualified his teammate in every single race. “I’m doing my utmost to show what I can do on track, what I can deliver.”

Russell and the team had a rollercoaster ride at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. An unfortunate crash behind the safety car ended an otherwise fantastic race. The crash was devastating; however, the team dealt with it inspiringly.

“Imola was just a fantastic weekend, how we dealt with it. And yeah, just heart-breaking, but following it, the amount of support I got from so many world champions, team managers, everybody, it meant so much to me in all honestly,” added Russell.

George Russell said that the race meeting at Portimao was the strongest of the season. Formula 1 fans are still waiting to celebrate Russell’s first points finish, and after coming so close at Imola, that day might not be too far away.
