The big teams have been making the moves of late in the drivers’ transfer market. The likes of Carlos Sainz have jumped ship to Ferrari and Daniel Ricciardo to McLaren. Most recently, Sebastian Vettel’s arrival to Racing Point was also confirmed.
However, one team left to confirm their pairing for 2021 is Alfa Romeo. There have been various theories about the two drivers who will occupy the seats at the Ferrari-affiliate team. And the intriguing part is that all options remain open at the moment.

The young driver from the Ferrari academy has made significant strides over the last few months. Mick Schumacher is currently leading the F2 Championship, ahead of Callum Ilott. There is certainly a strong case to be made for the rookie to be joining Alfa Romeo.
For one, the big teams are investing their faith in youth and the potential that they bring to the table.

Secondly, Antonio Giovinazzi has not made the greatest of impressions over the course of his tenure in the sport’s epitome. Since joining from F2, the Italian racer has picked up points on 7 of the 28 races he has driven.
He often finds himself getting knocked out of the Q1 sessions and even after being at the back of the grid, the focus majorly lies on just finishing the races. In a sport as ruthless and competitive as F1, even half of this is enough to determine a driver’s future.

If there is any sign of sorts in the puzzle’s complexity, it is that of team boss Frederic Vasseur’s words. Clearly, he believes and wants Kimi Raikkonen to be stay put for the next season.
So much so, that he has given full autonomy to the Finn driver deciding his own future. But the real question in it all – does Raikkonen want to continue with Alfa Romeo and F1?
If Kimi does not retire and decides to continue, then pairing him up with Mick Schumacher is a very genuine possibility. And the combination goes beyond just racing on the track.

Mick will have the perfect mentor to kick off his F1 career, a former World Champion. A veteran driver who has done it all, and a rookie with the ambition to prove his mettle. Sounds like quite the dream team for Alfa Romeo.
