F1 is steadily inching towards the closing stages of the 2021 season and so is the immensely exhilarating battle between the title contenders, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen.
15 races have gone by and both the drivers have made crucial mistakes which consequently made sure that neither of them runs away with the title from the other. And now, with hardly 7 race weekends in hand and a measly 2 points separating the duo, a former F1 driver has chosen his favorite to win the championship.
Timo Glock, the former F1 driver who was unknowingly the crucial factor in Hamilton’s 2007 championship win, reckoned that he is backing Verstappen to win his first-ever F1 title this season.

Of course, there are multiple reasons for his choice. But, one of them caught our attention; Glock’s part reason for supporting Max is that only he could stop Hamilton from breaking his German compatriot, Michael Schumacher‘s championship record.
“Max is ready, even if the pressure is increasing immensely now. But I would allow Formula 1 to win the title. And for Michael, I would like it too,” he said according to Speed Week.
Sochi result crucial for Max Verstappen to win the F1 title
Glock acknowledged how precious Verstappen’s result at Sochi could be during this season’s showdown. He further lauded the Dutchman’s decision to pit under pressure, which ultimately turned out to be absolutely precise.
“What Verstappen delivered in Sochi almost went under. He made the call at the right time and made no mistakes. Such races can decide the fight for the title. That shows the maturity that he’s ready,” the German said.

While Hamilton was on course to finish the race in P2, Verstappen was way down in P7, probably hoping for a miracle. The rains showed up, helping both the title contenders, but of course, Verstappen was the biggest gainer of the two.
The Briton gained an extra 7 points while Verstappen gained a much bigger 12 points. And now, 2 points separate the duo in the driver’s championship. Nevertheless, Verstappen is still the favorite, thanks to the powerful Honda engine at the back and the successful outcome of the engine penalty.
