A decade ago, Sebastian Vettel was the belle of the ball, the hottest property in F1. He became the youngest champion of the sport in 2010 and the Pundits couldn’t stop singing praises of his driving style, backed by his meticulous preparation. But fast forward to now, a variety of ex-drivers are offering him advice to overcome his slump in form.

After his Ferrari nightmare in 2020, Sebastian Vettel was expected to turn the tide in his favor. But the season-opener in Bahrain did not prove to be the starting point of that. Rather it was a continuation of his downfall after he made errors in both the qualifying on Saturday and the main race on Sunday.

The Aston Martin blamed the nature of his car and Mazepin’s spin for his struggles. However, his German compatriot Ralf Schumacher was not buying it, as he called on him to stop making excuses. And another former F1 driver agrees with Schumacher.

“I agree with him in part,” Timo Glock told Sport1.

“The mistake in qualifying must not happen to him. There were also other cars that had the yellow flag that received no penalty. The mistake in the race must not happen to him either. Then to say, ‘ the other would have made the mistake.’ He has to try to act cleverly and really concentrate on the essentials – which he certainly does.”

Vettel is one of the most experienced drivers on the F1 grid. Not just one of the most experienced, but also one of the most accomplished in its history. So, Timo Glock wants him to channel all of that and get back to basics to flourish again –

“It’s never nice to start the season like this and get a firework of horror reports like that behind you. But he’s experienced enough that he can pull his head out of there and focus on the essentials again.”
