Would you like to see a sitcom-like series on Ferrari? With all the in-house and external drama at Maranello and in the F1 paddock. Sounds exciting? Well, the current situation at the Scuderia ain’t less than a dramatic TV show. With a 5th team boss taking charge in the last decade and a half, Ferrari is far from showing stability.
Mattia Binotto has seen one of the toughest periods the Maranello team ever faced. Ferrari was amid a major controversy in 2019 with their fuel flow meter and Binotto was the man who led the team through the lows of 2020. After a rebuilding 2021 season, Binotto saw the rise of Ferrari to the top step of the podium this year for the first time since 2019.

Although Mattia’s major failure arguably was to not deliver on the 2022 championship hopes for the Italian team. The top management of the Prancing Horses has shown him the door and hired Frederic Vasseur as his replacement.
But former F1 driver Christian Danner thinks that Mattia’s departure is going to be an issue for Ferrari with a gloomy future.
Talking to AvD Motor & Sport magazine from Sport1, Danner said, “There is a magic word in Formula 1, how to be successful, and that means continuity.”
“Even if things aren’t going so well, it’s better to analyze the problems, maybe even restructure them, but to continue working within a large structure. I fear that Mattia Binotto’s departure will set Ferrari back three years.”
Have Ferrari Ditched Their Italian Roots in a Last-Bid Attempt to Break Their F1 Curse?
The reasoning behind Danner’s statements is quite clear: Ferrari needs stability. Though another reason might be Binotto’s technical expertise, as he donned the role of the Technical director too. And Charles Leclerc may not want to suffer from the lack of technical expertise.
Can Ferrari make a new start with Frederic Vasseur and Charles Leclerc reunited?
Apparently, Charles Leclerc has got strong roots with Frederic Vasseur. The Monegasque has been having a rapport with Vasseur since his junior category days. The Frenchman was also Leclerc’s team boss at Alfa Romeo when he debuted in F1 in 2018.
Though Leclerc moved up to Ferrari just a year later in 2019, their relationship has been quite good. Leclerc has mentioned how he knows his former team boss well. So it will be interesting to see how smoothly can this duo start their stint at Maranello together.

A major aspect, the Frenchman will have to ensure is prioritizing one of the two drivers for the championship. Even though Carlos Sainz had a mellow 2022, they cannot underestimate him for not matching Leclerc next season. So Frederic Vasseur has got a choice to make because teammate rivalries can ruin the team’s title challenges.
