Mick Schumacher will begin his journey in F1 sitting inside a Haas cockpit for 2021. The F2 champion was signed by Haas last month after he clinched his trophy at Bahrain. Nearly a month later, team principal Guenther Steiner admitted that while having Mick is an honor, there is also considerable pressure.

Haas has taken up the responsibility of launching the son of the great Michael Schumacher into F1. The team is considerably young and still prone to several mistakes. Thus, Steiner’s concern is they would not want to be uncertain about the future of the German protege.

“To have [Mick] is actually an honor, but it comes with a lot of pressure as well. I’m fully aware of that and not under any illusions. We will do our best to fulfill our duty to move him onto bigger things in life.

“To get his [Michael] son in is fantastic, and I think it is an honor for us. I think for a young team, we do things right and we do things wrong, but we always try to do our best whatever it is,” reckoned Steiner.

Haas is gearing up with all its might for the 2021 season. Lining up Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, the team plans to set a better score than last year. The new regulations serve as a huge incentive to them and hopefully, Ferrari can serve as a better power unit sponsor this time. With revised strategies for the new year, Steiner appears optimistic.

Steiner has high hopes from Mick. The young German will step onto the track with a championship under his belt. This is bound to boost his confidence during his initial days in the grid, and from there on, he is capable enough to pick up the nuances of the game.

“It is a big statement, and I think it is good for the confidence level of anybody to win a championship as competitive as F2 was [in 2020]. Like every championship, you have good years when it is more competitive and years when it is less [competitive].

“I think [2020] was a very competitive one. It was fought over until the last race. For him, coming in as a champion will give him that initial confidence when he may be struggling in F1 because everything is new,” concluded Steiner.

Hopefully, these assumptions reach fruition, and Mick can actually start his career with a bang. He will need Haas’ help and if the team is ready, they can achieve big things together.
