Lewis Hamilton will be without a contract at the end of this season. He won his seventh championship this season and sixth driving for Mercedes since 2014. It is widely suspected that he will join the grid with Mercedes again next season.
Toto Wolff stated in an interview that he has a deadline to meet and ensure a contract deal. Thus, he is looking forward to finishing the negotiations before Christmas this year. However, Lewis Hamilton clarified he did not want to dwell into negotiations while the season was ongoing.
He stated he wants to focus on the season and would prefer to begin talks once it ends. Meanwhile, he mentioned a few of his key considerations for the next term of the contract with Mercedes, clarifying that, going forward, spending more time with his family is his top priority.
Ralf Schumacher, in his Formula 1 column, looked at different things happening around the Formula 1 world.
He also stated, ” Rumor has it that he is aiming for a raise: 45 million euros (53.6 Million USD) per year are rumored. A lot of money already. If the number is right. But he’s damn good too. And already worth a lot.”
After his seventh title win, Hamilton received praises from press around the world. He also knows a lot of superstars from the entertainment business. Therefore, he brings a lot more to Formula 1 than any other driver. “He is the only real world star that Formula 1 has to offer,” claimed Schumacher.
Schumacher further added, ” Otherwise a Will Smith would never be interested in F1. Lewis is invaluable to Mercedes and to the whole of F1. He is the figurehead of the series. That has its price. Even if this is 45 million euros in the end.”
The words “Still I Rise” are tattooed across Hamilton’s shoulder. After his win at the Turkish Grand Prix, he stated that he’s only just starting. “I feel like I’m only just getting started,” said the Briton after winning his 94th Formula 1 race.
Toto Wolff has expressed that they want to finalize another contract with Lewis Hamilton. As the partnership continues, the fates of the following season will remain unchanged. Hamilton and Mercedes will increase their championship wins to a record number.
