“I Didn’t Agree With Albon’s Promotion”: Daniil Kvyat Opens Up

Back in 2019, Pierre Gasly went through his nightmare Red Bull stint, and staring at an inevitable demotion. So, the question was, who would replace him? would Daniil Kvyat get a second go after being a victim himself? or would Red Bull gamble on the untested Alexander Albon.
In the end, Red Bull batted for the latter, and Kvyat was terribly disappointed to miss out on a sensational return. The Russian driver confessed that he found it difficult to accept the snub and the fact that his teammate got the promotion.
Kvyat used to race for Red Bull between the 2015 and 2016 seasons, before he got dropped for Max Verstappen. After that, he spent some time as a Ferrari development driver and worked hard to return to the F1 grid.

The Red Bull rejects team earned their redemptions, with a 2019 German Grand Prix podium for Kvyat, and a Brazilian GP podium for Gasly. Daniil Kvyat felt that he did enough to prove his mettle, but Red Bull were still not convinced.
“Let’s put it this way: I wasn’t happy for sure,” Kvyat told the Beyond the Grid podcast. “I cannot say that when I heard the decision I fully understood it and I fully agreed with it.”
“For sure I was a bit like ‘it doesn’t sound right’. But if you look at it in a way, it can make sense. I’d been there already, and they need new blood always, they need to promote young drivers. This is what Red Bull does.”

How has Daniil Kvyat gotten over the disappointment?
The AlphaTauri driver insists that his own career is rife with plenty of possibilities on the table. He admitted that, in his experience, nothing is really concrete.

Instead, the 26-year old insists that drivers cannot pin all their hopes on dreams alone. He advised that it is more important to focus on one’s own job.
